History: The first in a series of Canadair (Now Bombardier Aerospace) waterbombers, the CL-215 was designed to operate at low speeds in harsh wind conditions one might expect over massive wildfires. The flying boat design allowed the aircraft to scoop 12000lbs of water in 10 seconds while travelling at 70 knots over the water. In some cases CL-215's performed as many as 125 drops a day. The water can also be injected with retardent chemicals which can improve the effects of the drop. The CL-215 was also capable of being used in SAR, maritime patrol, air transport and cargo roles. It was was used by: The governments of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Thailand, Venezuela, Yugoslavia and Greece.
